About Alibag
Alibag was developed in 17th Century by
Sarkhel Kanhoji Aangre the naval
chief of King Shivaji's Kingdom. Alibag is a costal town and a
municipal council in Raigad district in Konkan
region of Maharashtra, India. It is the headquarters of the
Raigad district. Raigad's first name is "Kulaba".
Today's Ramnath was the main village
at that time. Alibag as the place of capital of Kulaba district. There
were gardens of Ali who was a rich man so the area is known as Alibag.
Alibag is also known as "Shreebag".
Rewdanda, Chaul, Nagon, Aakshi, Varsoli,Thal, Kihim and Aawas
these villages were known as "Ashtagare"
at that time.
Beaches around Alibag
Alibag Beach - It is approx. one km. west from
Alibag S.T. Depot. The major
attractions of the beach are fresh air, sandy beach, sight of the
Kulaba Fort, Cypress and Coconut trees.
You can enjoy Coconut water, Ice-cream, Bhel-puri, Alu-bada which is
special dish of Alibag. Pollution free atmosphere is specialty of Alibag.
As there is no pollution, the beach is famous as a good tourist spot in
Alibag. The best season to visit it is from October to May.
Other Attractions are Varsoli beach, Kihim beach,
Saswane beach, Rewas jetty, Aakshi beach, Nagoan beach, Rewdanda Fort,
